Microsoft’s Bing Chat, an interactive feature in the Edge browser, offers users a unique experience that goes beyond a typical chat interface. Built on the core ChatGPT technology, Bing Chat offers several unique features, making it a versatile companion for your web browsing needs. Let’s delve into the intricate attributes and utilitarian capabilities of Bing Chat in the Microsoft Edge.

1. Text Generation with ChatGPT 4

Bing Chat is not just a simple chat interface. Over time, it has evolved significantly. Microsoft has incorporated a new Compose tab that empowers users to generate text based on a specified prompt, all presented through an accessible interface. Here’s a quick rundown of how it works:

  • Start by typing your prompt.
  • Select the tone (professional, casual, funny, and others), the format (blog post or email), and the desired length.
  • Click the “Generate draft” button once you’ve adjusted the settings to your liking.
  • Preview the generated text. If you want, you can use Bing’s recommendations to enhance the draft, or you can simply copy the draft as it is.

Unlike the free version of ChatGPT, Bing Chat uses GPT-4, OpenAI’s most advanced and capable language model, by default. This means you get to experience all of GPT-4’s enhancements, including faster and clearer responses, for free.

2. Summarizing and Interacting with Web Pages or Documents

You can leverage Bing Chat to summarize a diverse range of text types including documents, articles, and more. The AI bot provides a more interactive experience by enabling you to have a conversation about the submitted text with Bing Chat. For instance, you can ask it questions about specific topics covered in the text, and Bing will provide detailed answers. If you’re not satisfied with an answer, Bing offers two or three follow-up options as suggestions. However, you have complete freedom to ask any follow-up question you want.

3. Generating Images with DALL-E Integration

Bing Chat is integrated with another popular OpenAI product, DALL-E. This integration allows you to generate images by simply stating “Generate an image of…” followed by your prompt. Bing Image Creator will then generate four images based on your request. You can click on any image to view a full-screen preview and easily download the image or save it to a collection.

4. Setting the Tone for Responses

Bing introduces a unique feature that allows users to set the tone for responses during a chat. It provides three tabs at the top: by default, Microsoft provides “Balanced” responses, but you can switch to “More Creative” or “More Precise” at any time.

5. Exporting Answers in Various Formats

One of the reasons that make Bing Chat a useful tool for work is the ability to convert any answer or text generated using Bing into a Word document, PDF, or a simple text file. All you need to do is hover over a Bing answer, click the last Export button, choose your desired format, and you’re good to go.

6. Talking in Images

Bing Chat has the capacity to support image uploads. This feature is available in both the mobile app and the sidebar. You can upload any image and ask Bing questions about it, which can greatly assist in identifying unknown objects or solving visual issues. Microsoft has also ensured privacy by blurring faces from images and not using that data in its analysis.

7. Performing Web Actions from the Edge Sidebar

Tired of jumping through multiple hoops to figure out where to stream a movie from? Bing Chat seeks to offer a solution to this by providing the capability to take you directly to the streaming service page where the movie is hosted.

8. Plugin Integration

Microsoft has announced that it is using the same open plugin standard as OpenAI. This means that developers can create plugins for any service that supports this standard, including ChatGPT, Bing, Dynamics 365 Copilot, and Microsoft 365 Copilot. You’ll soon be able to integrate with apps like Zapier, Kayak, Zillow, and more, directly in Bing Chat, for free.

From the settings menu in the sidebar itself, you’ll be able to add and enable plugins. Once enabled, you can call out a plugin using a text prompt, just like ChatGPT.
